NLATSU Cookout!

Are you seeking American Humanics Certification? Are you just interested in nonprofit management, service, and building relationships with your peers?
NLA-TSU, the Nonprofit Leaders Association of Tennessee State University, announces its Fall 2010 Kickoff Event: a cookout get-together at Dr. Meg Streams' house in East Nashville, co-hosted by American Humanics Campus Executive Director Dr. Joan Gibran. Come meet your peers, have fun, and plan a service event for later in the semester! Any interested CPSUA student is invited, and American Humanics students are reminded that active participation in NLA-TSU is required to obtain certification. The cookout will be held on Sunday 9/26/2010 at 4pm. Food, sodas, croquet and frisbee will be provided; please note that this is a no-alcohol event. RSVP to Dr. Streams by Tuesday 9/21/2010 and you will receive directions prior to the event.

I would like to welcome new NLA-TSU Member, Dee Oglesby.
The Spring 2010 semester if off to a great start for our burgeoning student organization! We are in the process of scheduling the first Meet & Greet for the Spring semester, and I am also taking recommendations on community outreach activities that NLA-TSU members are interested in. Social Marketing for Nonprofits- Online Tutorials

The Case Foundation is presenting "Gear Up for Giving", which is a month-long series of social media tutorials available free on their website.The tutorials are designed to help nonprofits and their supporters understand how to use key tools and techniques to create awareness, catalyze civic action and cultivate new supporters and donors for their causes.

Do You Like Books? How About FREE Books?

That's right, Idealist.org has some really great resources for Nonprofit professionals, including FREE books available online!

Check out the Idealist Guide to Nonprofit Careers for First-time Job Seekers, which a free resource for newbie nonprofit-ers who are looking to break into the sector. This book was written by the staff of the Idealist.org and many other experts in the field, and is available to read online or for download. Want to check it out? Just click here.

Or if you are a Experienced Professional transitioning to the Nonprofit Sector, Idealist.org also has the Idealist Guide to Nonprofit Careers for Sector Switchers. This book is geared towards induviduals that might refer to themselves as a "mid-career transitioner", a "re-careerer", an "encore careerist", a "bridger", or a "sector switcher". Nonprofit Leaders Association of Tennessee State University, (NLATSU)

Students and Faculty,

We are pleased to announce that the Nonprofit Leaders Association of Tennessee State University, (NLATSU) is now accepting new members for the Fall 2009 semester. Nonprofit Leaders Association of Tennessee State University, (NLATSU) is a student organization designed to assist its members in achieving success in the nonprofit sector by providing valuable and relevant leadership experience, which complements their educational curriculum.

•Opportunity for Nationally Recognized American Humanics Nonprofit Management Certification through TSU/ CPSUA’s Nonprofit Programs

NLATSU is open to students of all disciplines and levels who are interested in making a difference through nonprofit work, leadership and community service. This organization is affiliated with the College of Public Service and Urban Affairs (CPSUA) Nonprofit Management and Leadership program. CPSUA’s mission is to train and equip students for careers as successful leaders in the public and nonprofit sectors. NLATSU supports this goal by complementing the academic curriculum and providing students with critical leadership and service experiences. NLATSU provides special opportunities for students to meet some of the certification requirements for American Humanics (AH) certification. AH is a unique alliance that brings universities, national nonprofit organizations, and community partners together to educate, prepare, and certify professionals to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations.

All students are encouraged join NLATSU, including Public Administration-MPA and PhD students, Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management students, Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Administration and Planning students, Undergraduate Nonprofit minors, and Urban Studies students, as well as students from other colleges who are interested in public service.

Membership to the NLATSU requires participation in NLATSU sponsored community outreach and volunteer opportunities, attendance of online NLATSU meetings, and membership dues of $10.00 each semester.
